The Chapel

The chapel at Hotel Museo Palacio de San Agustin invites each visitor to make an internal journey while surrounded by the music of the period, certified antique furniture and hand painted ceilings. Its beauty and tranquility inspires contemplation and introspection within every visitor, transporting him to a world very similar to that of the Order of St. Augustine.

Contemplation was a fundamental component of the San Agustin patrimony and the Order. Contemplation is synonymous with a life for God, life with God, life in God and life of God.

Spiral Staircase

In many religious traditions, spiral staircases have a highly spiritual significance. For the Augustinians, it was the living representation of the path towards God. The steadiness and smoothness of the climb represented the ease of ascending to heaven when a person is in God.

The Order of St. Augustine believed that at the end of this symbolic staircase, a choir of angels was waiting to escort them towards the heavenly father with joy and harmony. Arriving in heaven was the final triumph of a life dedicated to Christ. The spiral staircase is one of the most majestic points inside of the hotel. It offers those that cross it the opportunity to freely travel through time and space while symbolically transforming from human to divine beings.
